The Clinical Translation Platform of the Animal Health Partners Research Chair in Veterinary Medical Innovation

The Clinical Translation Platform of the Animal Health Partners Research Chair in Veterinary Medical Innovation

Thank you for your interest in the Clinical Translation Platform as part of the Animal Health Partners Research Chair in Veterinary Medical Innovation. The Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph is an internationally renowned college of veterinary medicine with a proven track record in comprehensive research.

Veterinary clinical patients experience many of the same diseases in the same environments as humans. Veterinary clinical trials have significant potential to improve the evaluation of techniques and devices prior to introduction to the human market. By studying novel technologies, devices and interventions in this patient population, we can better understand and refine protocols prior to introduction into human clinical trials; resulting in improved access for veterinary patients and improved outcomes for humans.

    Objectives of the Platform

The purpose of this platform is to support health science advancement through innovation. Projects will focus on innovation and may involve novel technology, devices or interventions that have a high probability of success. This platform focuses on projects that can be evaluated in a veterinary clinical trials setting. Proposals will be evaluated for their relevance, innovation, translational and impact potential.

    What We Offer

We work with researchers and private industry to evaluate the veterinary market for novel technology, devices or interventions with potential for translation into the human market. During the initial exploration phase we will meet with you to understand your goals and provide insight into the potential market. Next we will help to develop plans to ensure all preliminary safety and ethical requirements are completed prior to a clinical trial. Following completion of phases 1 and 2, we will help to develop and carry out a veterinary clinical trial at the Ontario Veterinary College, Toronto Animal Health Partners or at one of our partner sites throughout Canada. Finally, through our connections and existing collaborations we will provide insight and support for the translation of this idea for the next phase of development.  Please note this program is not intended as a funding mechanism.
